We often get to see this picture every where in Pune City. Plastic Plastic Plastic.. everywhere.... Recently PMC has banned the plastic bags below 50 microns and i hope the shopkeepers are still following the rule...good effort indeed... but its not only the plastic bags, what about the plastic bottles????
We often throw the bottles here and there...why because its of no use... but if we get money out it then ???? yes thats the simple solution which makes nearly impossible to get a single plastic bottle even in dustbins here.....
Lets see whats the system being followed here..
Almost all Plastic bottle here can be recycled and have a symbol as shown.

Empty bottles with this symbol can be returned back to get 0.25 Euro/2 SEK.This amount is already added in the cost of the bottle. So its like a deposit amount (known as Pfand) which you have already paid. Almost all supermarkets have the machines installed as shown where you can go and deposit the empty bottles to get a cash voucher which can be used at the store or can be exchanged for cash.
Typically the machine is like:

with this thing nobody will like to throw bottle just like that.... and even if they, there will be many waiting to pick it up.....(WHAT AN IDEA SIRJI!!!)
Good One... but I am eager to know what is the price of this machine.. It should be affordable.. Can we do some googling to find out the price and upload the same info on this blog..
ReplyDeleteHere these machines are installed by Big supershops by themselves.. but in our case as i said these should be installed by corporation.. and even though the cost may be around 30-40K (just wild guess)... its nothing for PMC whose Annual Budget (2010-11) is Rs 3196.12 crore !!!
ReplyDeleteGood article man...good awakening!
ReplyDeleteThis same method can be adopted for recycling glass bottles too. I have seen similar machines which accept glass bottles and even plastic bags. Apart from working on ways to recycle, an effort should be made to reduce use of plastic bottles. There should be severe fines imposed for littering the streets. On all the freeways here they have imposed a fine $1000 for littering.
@Vishvesh: yes even i have seen such glass bottle accepting machines but hvnt used it ..but reducing use of plastic bottles seems difficult.. what can be the alternatives other than glass bottles?.. ..recycling waste article is down the line...and about your last point..totally agree.. we need to think upon what we can do..
